The Best Apple Products and Services for College in 2022 – 9to5Mac | Hot Mobile Press

The fall semester is fast approaching and we’re reaching the second half of 2022. Apple has already begun its annual education promotion in stores and online, while college students begin shopping for school. For some, deciding what technology you need to succeed in your college career could be a big decision. 9to5Mac is here to help. Let’s go through some of the best Apple products and services for college in 2022.

Apple’s MacBook Air is a fantastic college computer

So here’s the thing about the MacBook Air — Apple currently sells two models. There’s the M1 of 2020 and the M2, which will be released on July 15th. Both are great options for most students. If you’re wondering whether you should get the M1 model or the M2 model, you should check out my colleague’s guide on the subject. Apart from that, the MacBook Air offers a slim design that is comfortable to carry all day long. It has one of the best laptop batteries, giving you a charge that lasts all day. Plus, starting at $999 ($899 for students), it’s the most affordable MacBook out there. I also have to mention that if you choose the M1 MacBook Air, you’re ready to be amazed by its ergonomic capabilities. This keyboard is phenomenally comfortable to type on.

Accessories for MacBook Air:

  • Since the MacBook Air only has USB-C ports, you may need a multiport adapter. My favorite from Amazon includes two USB-A ports, an SD card slot, an additional USB-C port, and an HDMI port.
  • This is something I’d like to get myself: a keyboard shortcuts sticker. Great for helping you become a more efficient Mac user. Can be used for both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

The iPad Air is a multitasking machine

Since the introduction of the M1 chip in the iPad Air (fifth generation), the device has evolved into a multitasking powerhouse. Perfect for note-taking, video lectures, entertainment and more, Apple’s iPad Air meets the needs of most college students. With new features like Stage Manager for iPadOS 16, the device will surely become your educational companion.

Accessories for iPad Air:

  • Logitech Combo Touch is a fantastic value for money keyboard. However, if you plan to use Touch ID to unlock your iPad, I recommend Apple’s Magic Keyboard. This also gives you an extra USB-C port, as well as backlit buttons.
  • Personally, I think the Apple Pencil (second generation) is a must-have for the iPad to get the most out of your device. If you’re looking for something more affordable, I was very impressed with the fake Apple Pencils on Amazon. You can also buy these items used to spend less for the same or similar quality.
  • Paperlike screen protector is ideal for heavy notes. Writing and drawing with Apple Pencil mimics the feel of writing with pencil and paper while protecting your screen. Keep in mind that this product will wear down the tip of your Apple Pencil faster than normal.

Outperforms Studio Buds

Why does Studio Buds beat AirPods? My reasoning: They are some of the best earplugs out there. The earbuds have many of the important features of the AirPods Pro like active noise cancellation (ANC) and transparency mode at a fraction of the price. Beats Studio Buds are also perfect for students using Apple and/or Android devices as they work great on both.

Apple’s college student discount

This year’s educational support is somewhat different than in previous years. In addition to the year-round educational discount, receive a $150 gift card with the purchase of a qualifying Mac computer. Receive a $100 gift card for eligible iPad purchases. In addition, students receive a 20% discount on AppleCare throughout the year.

iCloud storage

Because iCloud is Apple’s own cloud storage platform, it’s an easy way to transfer files across your ecosystem. I prefer using iCloud over other storage options because it’s easy to use and picks up where it left off on another Apple device. Apple already gives users 5GB of iCloud storage for free, but sometimes that’s not enough. In general, I’ve found that 50GB hits the sweet spot for many users, costing $0.99 per month. Having enough cloud storage is important as a student, but Apple has you covered.

Apple Music for students

While you commute to class or listen while you study, Apple Music offers subscribers a student discount. For $5.99 per month, students have ad-free access to over 90 million songs. Students also have free access to Apple TV+ through UNiDAYS. There is also a promotion currently running where you can get a free pair of Beats Flex for a limited time.
