It was Saturday’s Tyreek Hill Show in Miami.
The Miami Dolphins receiver opened practice by addressing fans and previously greeting them at NFL Training Camp 2022 land a flip on the field to cheer them up.
Later in practice, he connected with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on a 65-yard smack for a touchdown that again excited the crowd. Hill followed that up by comparing the Dolphins receivers to Waffle House in an interview with ESPN’s Jeff Darlington because “everyone is open 24 hours a day.”
Elsewhere, a couple of rookie wideouts managed to make their mark. In New Orleans, Saints reporter Katherine Terrell said Chris Olave had the game of the day, connecting with quarterback Jameis Winston on a 60-yard TD in 11-on-11 work with the first unit. According to Jets reporter Rich Cimini, No. 10 overall Garrett Wilson made two outstanding catches on a strong day for New York’s heralded rookie class during practice.
Here’s what else you need to know about camps in the league:
What our NFL Nation reporters saw today
Philly Eagles: Cornerback James Bradberry is making a strong first impression with his new team. Saturday was probably his best training camp session yet as he used his size and physicality to largely lock down receiver AJ Brown, including a pass low down the left touchline that Bradberry severed.

New England Patriots: Quarterback Mac Jones didn’t seem too happy after practice, and instead of mingling on the field with teammates and their families like he’d been doing for the past few days, he quickly retired to the locker room. One reason for his possible anger: A pick-six on one of his last passing attempts when the first read wasn’t open, he pumped and dragged the ball down and then attempted to laser a pass to DeVante Parker, who saved Kyle Dugger took the other way. – Mike Reiss
New York Giants: Third-year cornerback Darnay Holmes continues to have a strong start to training camp. Every day he forces a turnover. On Saturday, the ball was knocked out of the hands of running back Saquon Barkley. Safety Julian Love grabbed it and almost returned it for a score. Holmes now has three interceptions and a forced fumble in four days. Seeing him as a force early in camp is a welcome sign for the Giants. Atlanta Falcons: In what Falcons head coach Arthur Smith called “probably the most competitive practice we’ve had since I’ve been a coach,” Atlanta had two fights by the end of practice and an overall aggressive play on both offense and defense . Smith himself got involved in the middle of the first scuffle to end it.
It’s cliche, but one of the biggest things for Smith was changing the Falcons’ approach and culture, and Saturday’s practice was the epitome of that.
“You don’t want the guys to sit back and be passive. That’s football,” defensive coordinator Dean Pees said. “It’s a tough sport, so you want guys to compete. What you want are guys who get a little upset when you get hit.” -Michael Rothstein
Saints of New Orleans: Wide receiver Chris Olave had the game of the day for the Saints on Saturday. The Saints first-rounder went wide open low downfield, and quarterback Jameis Winston hit him in the walk for a 60-yard touchdown with the first-team unit in 11-on-11 work. It wasn’t the only nice catch Olave had, as he quickly followed up a few games later with a 15-yard grab from quarterback Andy Dalton. – Katherine Terrell
Green Bay packers: The Packers need to find some depth on the outside linebacker, but if Rashan Gary and Preston Smith are playing like they did in the first week of training camp, then defensive coordinator Joe Barry won’t want to take them off the field. Gary was a staple in the backfield, flushing Aaron Rodgers out of the bag on numerous occasions. Of course, you can’t fire the quarterback in practice, but when asked how many sacks he thought he would have, Gary said, “I don’t know, tell me.” When we were told we had them Losing the count, Gary said, “That’s a good number then.” Smith destroyed a potential big game with a push from Rodgers on Saturday. Everything has been padless so far, but the duo have combined for 18.5 sacks last season. “Right now it’s pretty clear who our ones and twos are, but as far as three through five go, I think it’s everyone’s guess,” coach Matt LaFleur said of the full-backs. – Rob Demovsky
Chargers from Los Angeles: Chargers receiver Mike Williams kept it simple when describing quarterback Justin Herbert. “He’s pretty good,” Williams said, smiling after Saturday’s practice session. Herbert’s connection to Williams and veteran Keenan Allen has been effortless throughout the four-day camp, allowing Herbert to up the difficulty in front of a sold-out crowd during Saturday’s practice session. Herbert found Allen low on the touchline after a double flea flick. Fans erupted. According to Williams, Herbert’s comfort on offense and with himself, now a third-year pro, has grown noticeably. “He’s just a lot more relaxed,” Williams said. – Lindsey Thiry
New York Jets: “The Jets held their first public practice and gave fans their first glimpse of their acclaimed draft class. The rookies didn’t disappoint. WR Garrett Wilson (first lap) made two nice catches and CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner (first) kept well in cover with the starting defense. Crowd favorite was RB Breece Hall (runner-up): Every time he touched the ball, the crowd yelled, “Breeeeece!” The Jets expect great things from their rookie class. Said DE Jermaine Johnson II (first): “None of us have a problem with those expectations.” – Rich Cimini

49ers DT Maurice Hurst needs surgery for a torn bicep
The depth of the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive line will be tested early in training camp after defensive tackle Maurice Hurst tore his biceps in Friday practice and needs surgery, according to coach Kyle Shanahan.
Shanahan said Hurst will “most likely” miss the entire 2022 season.
“We’ll see after the surgery,” Shanahan said. “The biceps usually work like this, but I don’t know exactly.”
Ryan Kerrigan ends an era for Washington football
Ryan Kerrigan prided himself on taking a consistent approach that yielded equally consistent results. But when his left knee prevented him from doing so, he decided the best outcome would be retirement.
Kerrigan announced his retirement on Friday, ending his 11-year career by signing a one-day contract with the Washington Commanders. He played 10 seasons for Washington before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles in the last offseason.
