The Cottagers are back in the big time after asking for the league title for the first time after the storm, looting over 100 goals in the process.

Fulham vs Liverpool game preview

Marco Silva vented his frustration at the slow pace of Fulham’s recruitment this summer after Sunday’s last friendly of the pre-season against Villarreal.

Los Blancos already sealed a return to the top flight on April 19 but have only added four players to their squad since then.

Kevin Mbabu recently joined SW6 from Wolfsburg and set up Aleksandar Mitrovic for a late equalizer against Unai Emery’s side in a game that also saw Joao Palhinha and Andreas Pereira get their first run-outs at Craven Cottage. Shakhtar Donetsk loanee Manor Solomon is expected to make his debut on Saturday.

However, despite this positive record, Silva stressed that he only had 16 experienced players available for the clash against last season’s Champions League semi-finalists, including only two centre-backs, Tosin Adarabioyo and Tim Ream, the mainstays of the final day of the season’s title-winning campaign.

Bernd Leno will join the club in time for the opener against the Reds in the coming days, while a number of centre-backs have been linked with a move to west London, including West Ham’s Issa Diop and Leicester’s Jannik Vestergaard.

After Liverpool sorely missed out on the title last season, silverware will once again be at stake on several fronts.

The Premier League is back!

The departure of Sadio Mane after six years at Anfield was unwelcome for Jurgen Klopp but with Luis Diaz thriving last season, Diogo Jota also enjoying the best season of his career and Fabio Carvalho arriving from Fulham, the team is not lacking in offensive firepower.

Not to mention the extension of Mo Salah’s contract and the arrival of Darwin Nunez for a club-record fee of £85million.

The imposing Uruguayan striker scored an incredible 34 goals in 41 games for Benfica last season, including two in a vibrant Champions League quarter-final game against his new employers in April.

The 23-year-old showed what he can do in Saturday’s Community Shield clash against Manchester City, winning the penalty for Liverpool’s second before rounding off a 3-1 win by crouching down to catch Andy Robertson in the centre to bring home.

One area where the Carabao Cup and FA Cup holders look weak is in midfield, with Takumi Minamino’s departure and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s serious hamstring injury leaving them with few options.

Naby Keita is the only discernible replacement option for the trio of Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and captain Jordan Henderson, with the club’s supporters clamoring for a younger takeover to boost competition.

Fulham vs Liverpool predicted team news

Expected line-up of Fulham:

Club captain Tom Cairney and Mbabu are pushing starts after positive late contributions against Villarreal but not too much rotation is possible.

Fulham new signing Bernd Leno could replace Marek Rodak in goal after making a permanent move to Craven Cottage on Tuesday night.

Potential XI: Turners; Tete, Tosin, Ries, Robinson; palhinha, reed; Kebano, Pereira, Solomon; Mitrovic.

Liverpool predicted line-up:

Despite Jota and Oxlade-Chamberlain being sidelined with hamstring injuries, Klopp’s squad is still the envy of every team in the league except Man City and he is likely to field the majority of the XI who defeated Pep Guardiola’s men at King Power.

Nunez coming in for Roberto Firmino from the start is the most likely change, while Ibrahima Konate could also replace Joel Matip if he can shake off a knee problem from Sunday’s behind closed doors friendly against Strasbourg. Assuming the Frenchman isn’t ready to return, these will likely be the starters:

Potential XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Nunez, Diaz.
