Improve your bedside charging needs and untangle the clutter.
When I asked my wife to name her biggest technical annoyance, she said it would definitely be the plethora of cables/chargers etc. Wallet thing only dongles.” In homage to my father’s jokes, I replied that I would have to be the one to get her a dongle.
As an Apple fan, I’ve had to use multiple methods to switch between USB-A, USB-C, Micro-USB, HDMI, HDMI-Mini, Lightning, VGA, and DisplayPort, just to name a few. Despite the options, my bedside table would look like a snake cave without dedicated cable routing and management. USB hubs can work, but often result in cable clutter. For those who want to charge their iPhone, AirPods Pro and Apple Watch, consider UGREEN’s handy 3-in-1 wireless charger.
The 3-in-1 wireless charger came in an attractive silver retail box measuring 8 inches long by 4 1/4 inches thick by 4 1/2 inches high. The cover plate featured the white company name in the top left corner, the generic product name just below the company name, and a large “Made in China” sticker on the bottom left. The panel’s main showcase was the slightly raised, glossy image of the iPhone/AirPods/Apple Watch charger.
The sleek white base, silver chrome stand, MagSafe charging ring, and power indicator blend well with the silver background. I liked that they included three vertically stacked loading icons to represent the available devices. The top plate showed a similar raised/glossy view of the charger. However, the image showed the MagSafe stand and charging station with no additional devices.
To the side of the image, the company has included three product-defining icons: 15W MagSafe compatibility, Snap and Go (magnet icon), and an image of a tilting base for adjustable viewing angle. Below the icons are a few short phrases that describe the product’s compatibility with iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods.
The rear proved to be a little more choppy than the other panels, but proved necessary for the tech specs and compatibility options. The silver background might not have been the ideal surface for the dark gray font, but it was good for the white headings. The product promised 5V/3A, 9V/3A or 12V/2.75A input, 25W max. Output: 15W iPhone, 5W Apple Watch, 5W AirPods, Compatibility with any wireless charging iPhone ( MagSafe or not) and cases.
Made for list included Apple Watch Series 1-5, SE and Series 6-7, iPhone 12/12 Max/12 Pro/12 Pro Max/13/13 Pro/13 Pro Max, 2nd Gen AirPods, AirPods Pro, 3rd generation AirPods. Finally, you will find a description of the MFI name/meaning at the top right of the box and the SKU barcode, product manufacturing labels, and address information at the bottom of the box.
I removed the outer protective cover, lifted the top off the inner silver box, and removed the inner components. The charging dock took up the entire bottom of the box, while a 3 3/8″ tall, 3 3/4″ wide, and 1 3/8″ thick accessory box was nested next to the MagSafe post. Before throwing away the outer packaging, make sure you have removed the cardboard instruction card, A1 user manual (WEEE/FCC/IC/Warranty Information), a small silicone non-slip pad (individually wrapped) and the five-page user manual.
I opened the accessory box and removed the coiled 60-inch USB-C to USB-C cable. While I was happy with the cable’s generous length, clean white color, and USB-C/USB-C nature, I didn’t like the amount of wasted space in the accessory box. Personally, the box could have been 50% the size and still have room left.
I plugged a Kanex GoPower USB wall charger into my outlet, a Klein Tools multimeter into the USB-C port, and then the USB-C cable between the multimeter and the UGREEN charger. Once the charger was connected to the multimeter, the Klein Tools multimeter read 12.02V/0.06A with nothing connected.
I placed my iPhone 13 Pro Max on the charging dock and noticed the power icon light up on the screen. From 8:22 p.m. at 35% power, the multimeter showed 11.97 V/1.2 A. When I removed the phone, the multimeter returned to 12.02V/0.06A. I added my 44mm Apple Watch Series 6 to the slim watch’s charging port and noticed that the watch’s charging indicator was activated. From 8:25 p.m. at 62% power, the multimeter showed 12.03 V/0.12 A. I took the watch back off and found that the multimeter read 12.03V / 0.05-0.06A.
I placed my AirPods Pro in a Catalyst Total Protection AirPods Pro Case on the center post and the multimeter read 12.03V/0.28A while the AirPods Pro Case was at 94%. I put the phone back on the stand, pressed the back button to raise the watch post, placed the watch on the charger and let the three items charge for 10 minutes. With all three devices connected, the multimeter showed 11.97 V/1.43 A. At 8:38 p.m., my iPhone 13 Pro Max was at 43%, my Apple Watch was at 57%, and my AirPods Pro case was at 98%.
At 9:31, my iPhone Pro 13 Max was at 76%, my Apple Watch at 97%, and the AirPods Pro were already fully charged. At 9:57 p.m., the iPhone was 90% charged while the multimeter read 11.97V/0.82A. I removed the AirPods Pro, removed the Apple Watch, and left the iPhone 13 Pro Max fully charged until 10:28 p.m.
The UGREEN base was 3 1/2 inches wide, 6 3/4 inches long and 5/8 inches high and featured a rear USB-C port. The bottom plate had a rubberized 1/2 inch diameter foot at each of the four corners and a centralized information section with the product name, specifications, and product manufacturing labels. The sterile white base had medium chrome accents that added the needed touch of shine.
The UGREEN name has been printed on the front edge of the base section just above the LED indicator light. From left to right you will find a 3 1/8 inch tall and 3/8 inch diameter raised phone mount with a 2 1/4 inch side arm. Attached to the arm you’ll find a white MagSafe mount that is 2 5/16″ in diameter and 3/8″ thick with a chrome accent around it.
The MagSafe base was attached to the side arm and could rotate parallel to the ground and about 60 degrees, but not a full ninety degrees. Next to the raised phone arm, you’ll find a 2-inch wide and 1 3/8-inch tall AirPods vacuum charger. Finally, you’ll find a white watch charger measuring 1 1/4 inches in diameter with a surrounding chrome accent, similar to the MagSafe phone charger mentioned above.
The flat charge port rested in a larger 1 1/2 inch diameter port that left enough clearance for the port to open to nearly 90 degrees. To switch between flat charging and upright charging, simply press the 9/16″ wide and 1/8″ tall chrome button on the back of the charging station. The device emits a refreshing “click” as the Apple Watch’s charging pad seemed to catapult toward me. I would not recommend pressing the button while your watch remains attached to the base as this would throw your watch off.
Luckily, the powerful magnetic attachment reduced the distance to just a few inches from the base. The included silicone pad adds extra cushion to the edge of your watch to prevent falls and falls. To install the accessory, place your watch on the charger, remove the adhesive backing from the silicone pad, slightly bend the watch down, align the sticker, and press the sticker down onto the base.
If you’re a perfectionist, I imagine this step can be a bit frustrating. I think the company could have improved this process by creating a small indentation or outline to align the decal. If you’ve ever tried putting stickers on children’s toys then you might understand the frustration of trying to line up a sticker freehand.
I’ve used the watch charger in both the upright and stowed positions, rotated the phone from vertical to landscape, and charged my AirPods Pro in the Catalyst case and without the case. I liked the rigid footprint of the base and found it to be fairly secure even with the phone connected. The rubberized feet provided strong gripping power and the base never moved.
I rotated the MagSafe base from parallel to the lower base to perpendicular and was pleased with the strong secure attachment between the magnet and the phone. I loved being able to rotate the phone away from the base, attach the watch and AirPods Pro to their respective charging points, and then rotate the phone back into place. I used cable management tabs to align the cable and found that this device reduced the number of wires on my end table by two.
My wife loved the reduced clutter and appreciated the clean/sterile appearance of the UGREEN device. Noting that the 3-in-1 wireless charger had an Apple-like feel, she proudly displayed the three Apple devices. Although the device was a little light against the wooden bedside table, I welcomed the ability to charge all three of my portable electronic devices without having to invent additional cables.
I appreciated their instruction manual and especially the installation map. The only thing missing from the UGREEN 3-in-1 wireless device was a slight recess for a wedding ring. Perhaps the second generation device will feature a ring indentation on one of the left corners. Throughout the testing period, I struggled to find any concerns or problematic features other than the excess accessory box cardboard and perhaps the overall cost. However, the elements, the design, the reduced cable management, the chrome accents, the performance etc. suggested glamor and extravagance.
More than just a simple charger, the device offers a phone stand on a side table. Watch your favorite programs in portrait/landscape mode, play music on your desk, turn on bedside mode and enjoy the stylish, sleek stand. The charging cable, shape, design and placement of the charging ports have all been well matched to the device. Charge rates proved reasonable and appeared to match the rates suggested on the box. The base never got hot and offered an attractive bedside charging experience.
