Thermal steam chamber system

As the iPhone becomes more powerful with larger batteries and more CPU-intensive tasks built into iOS, keeping the device at a normal working temperature could be a challenge. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the high-end iPhones of 2022, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, could introduce a vapor chamber thermal system to meet the challenge.

The system would help control device temperature during intense tasks and is already found in smartphones from companies like Samsung, Razer and LG. Kuo mentioned the tidbit in a broader report on redesigned MacBook Pros in early 2021, so it’s not entirely clear if Apple has changed plans. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are rumored to be powered by the A16 Bionic chip, which boasts performance and battery improvements.

Better details in photos

According to a rumor earlier this year, the main camera of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will have a 57% larger sensor compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The device’s sensor is rumored to be 1/1.3 inch wide and 57% larger in area than the 1/1.65 inch wide camera sensor of iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max .

The larger sensor results in sharper details in photos and improved low-light photography. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this is just one of several major changes to the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera system that will “take cell phone camera photography to a new level.” Apple will also increase the megapixels of the wide-angle lens to 48MP, compared to the 12MP on the current high-end iPhones.

While the rear cameras usually get all the love and attention with every new iPhone, the front camera for the iPhone 14 will get a big boost in image quality and capabilities. The iPhone 14 series selfie camera is said to be a “high-end” camera system that will have autofocus capabilities and a wider ƒ/1.9 aperture compared to the ƒ/2.2 aperture in the current iPhone 13.

The larger aperture paired with autofocus would let more light through the lens, resulting in better overall quality and improved low-light photography. The autofocus would also help with portrait photos, resulting in sharper and sharper bokeh and detail in the subject.

Goodbye physical SIM card!

In 2016, Apple famously removed the headphone jack from the iPhone. In 2017, Apple removed the physical home button from its flagship iPhone. In 2022, the physical SIM card tray could be next. According to a seemingly legitimate memo obtained by MacRumorsApple at least plans to phase out the physical SIM card on select US carriers later this year, likely after the iPhone 14 launches in September.

The timeline suggests that at least some iPhone 14 carriers and models may not have a SIM card tray and could simply rely entirely on the eSIM technology that Apple has been pushing for the last few years. A previous rumor suggested that the move to eSIM as the new standard would come with the iPhone 15, so the exact timeline remains unknown.

2 TB of storage space for all your photos

Apple introduced a new 1TB storage option with the iPhone 13 Pro Max last year, giving customers a massive amount of on-device storage for all their photos, videos, and apps. This year, the iPhone 14 Pro Max could come in an even larger 2TB configuration. If true, it would be the largest storage space ever offered in the history of an iPhone.

The increased storage comes as Apple builds advanced photo and video capabilities into the iPhone. Just 60 seconds of a 4K video at 60 FPS takes up around 440 MB of storage space. For photographers and cinematographers, the larger storage option gives them the freedom to shoot and create without the potential limitations of limited storage. The iPhone 13 Pro Max 1TB costs $1599.
