I’m sure there are some definitions of insurance floating around out there, but there really aren’t any definitive definitions. Insurance is a very broadly defined term. Let me give you some ideas:

Prepaid travel insurance: This is basically a thing you can buy in order to use your credit card in certain situations. This can apply for things like airline flights or train or bus rides.

Insurance for power, water, and gas utilities.

Insurance for your internet and phone service.

Insurance for automobiles.

Things that you own. Like a laptop.

Insurance against theft.

The fact that these things come and go and aren’t permanent makes insurance attractive. Some examples of insurance that can be purchased with your own money include liability insurance for property damage and car insurance for theft and collision. Insurance to get the things you own insured isn’t insurance at all, but a form of credit insurance.
